8/24 Bay Area Anarchist Salon & Potluck

Wednesday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Bay Area Anarchist Salon & Potluck

The Bay Area Anarchist Salon, a monthly facilitated conversation by and for anarchists, features a specific question, with initial respondents and then a group conversation, plus a potluck/Food Not Bombs meal. Bring vegan/veggie food, drink, or dessert to share! And stay after the salon for socializing.

Question: What are the successes and failures of anarchist responses to recent killings by police in the Bay Area and beyond?

Note: This month we aren’t going to have initial respondents; rather, we’ll do a go-around and then conversation, so come prepared to say a few insightful words to kick off this salon.

$2-5 donation to benefit Station 40′s community events infrastructure (but no one turned away for lack of money)

7/20 Bay Area Anarchist Salon & Potluck

Bay Area Anarchist Salon & Potluck

The Bay Area Anarchist Salon, a monthly facilitated conversation by and for anarchists, features a specific question, with initial respondents and then a group conversation, plus a potluck/Food Not Bombs meal. Bring vegan/veggie food, drink, or dessert to share! And stay after the salon for tea and socializing.

Question: “Solidarity is the weapon of the people” (popular Greek anarchist slogan): How, as anarchists, can we move toward a critical and revolutionary solidarity that empowers our comrades while strengthening our own capacity to fight. We will evaluate and learn from recent local solidarity projects that have connected anarchist struggles with campaigns to protect Glen Cove, save the Oakland libraries, support the struggles of prisoners, and more.

7/19 Film & Discussion: Action in Asia

Tuesday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Action in Asia: A documentary film project about social movements in East and South East Asia

Initially, this project was started through the anti-G8 summit protests in Japan. In autumn 2007, two people from Germany traveled Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong to report about the anti-G8 protest movement in Germany leading up to the summit protests in Heiligendamm, Germany, in 2007. During the preparation for this journey it became clear that sadly not much of political issues in Asia are known to people in other regions of the globe. So interviews were shot with people involved in diverse political and social movements. More recently, shot interviews also feature the antinuclear movement in Japan.

For more on the film, see http://actioninasia.wordpress.com/

$2-5 donation for filmmakers (but no one turned away for lack of funds)
