The last Tuesday of every month at Station 40 we will be gathering to write letters to prisoners near and far. Come through, share some snacks, and write a few letters. We encourage folks to write to strangers, “political” prisoners, family, or friends; your choice! We will, however, try to take turns giving a little update on different prisoners or situations and rebellions in prisons so the events will be somewhat themed. We want those on the inside to feel connected to the happenings outside, but also vis-versa.
This month we will be writing to black women who have been incarcerated for fighting back against patriarchal and white supremacist violence. We would especially like to focus on Marissa Alexander, CeCe McDonald, and Patreese Johnson. Marissa is serving time for firing a warning shot near her abusive husband, and CeCe and Patreese are in jail for defending themselves against racist and queerphobic violence. Come write letters to show these folks that they are not alone in their struggles.
Envelopes, stamps, and paper will be provided. See you there!
